Before You Call Anyone
Define the problem. Write down what drives you crazy about the current kitchen — not what you want it to look like, but what does not work. The complaints are the design brief.
Set the scope honestly. Refresh, replacement, or full remodel? Your answer sets the budget conversation. If you are not sure, that is what the free estimate is for.
Collect inspiration. Save photos of kitchens you like — and note what you like about each one. "This layout" is more useful than "this vibe."
Know your non-negotiables. The island, the double oven, keeping the window over the sink — decide the must-haves before design starts.
Design Phase Decisions
Layout. Finalize the floor plan and walk it — taped on the floor if possible. Changes here are free; changes later are not.
Cabinets. Tier, door style, finish, and every storage accessory. Open every sample drawer.
Appliances. Choose models early — the cabinet design depends on exact dimensions. Measure twice, order once.
Counters and backsplash. Take large samples home. Look at them in your kitchen's light, morning and evening.
Fixtures and hardware. Faucet, sink, cabinet pulls, light fixtures. Small items, big visual impact.
Lighting plan. Every can, pendant, and strip marked on the drawing, with switch locations.
Pre-Construction
Permits submitted. Confirm what your project needs and that applications are in.
Materials ordered. Cabinets, counters, tile, fixtures — with confirmed lead times.
Temporary kitchen set up. Microwave, toaster oven, coffee, dishwashing station. Plan it before demo day.
Protect the plan. Confirm the payment schedule, the written schedule, and how change orders work — in writing.
During Construction
Stay reachable. Questions come up; fast answers keep the schedule.
Do not redesign mid-build. The design is final. Trust the plan you made carefully.
Walk through at milestones. After rough-in, after cabinets, before final paint — catch issues when they are cheap to fix.
Keep the punch list. One running list of everything that needs attention, reviewed at the final walkthrough.
